Is the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ15 a good camera?
I am getting this for christmas. I am a beginner photographer but I know all the rules. I was just wondering what your comments on this camera are. When I went to buy it with mum the guy in the shop told me it was a great little camera. Please tell me if it’s worth the money. Thanks………….Gabrielle
Apologies if I have missed it, but I don’t see a TZ15 in the Panasonic line up. There is a TZ5 and a TZ50.

Don’t be put off by the critical nature of these reviews – in this price range, no camera will shine in every area. Panasonic pack their cameras with useful features. The only downside is that their sensors tend to produce a little more “noise” in the images compared to some other manufacturers. However, this is only noticeable if you make massive enlargements – you won’t notice it at all if you view on screen or print at normal sizes. I have a Panasonic camera and am very happy the results.
I agree with the man in the shop. The TZ5 is a great camera for the money – there really are very few cameras that offer so much at this price point. The only point I would make is that the TZ5 does not have any real manual control, relying on a variety of scene modes to deal with different conditions. If you really want to learn about photography, the option of manual control over aperture and shutter speed is quite important. If you just want to take photos and are happy to let the camera decide the settings for you, scene modes are fine.
