In the smart phone market, competition is hotting up. No longer are smart phones clunky beasts that only an executive would love. Smart phones are now sexy and a must have for the trendy consumer. Two of the hottest handsets on the market at the moment are the Blackberry Bold and the Apple iPhone. There has been much debate about which is the better handset, but is there really that much that splits them?

  • They Both Have Wireless Synchronisation- With both the iPhone and the Blackberry Bold, you have options to set them up so that you can wirelessly synchronise your contacts and calendar. You do not have to connect up with your computer via USB
  • They Both have GPS Maps- Both devices have inbuilt GPS devices so you should no longer be getting lost whilst you are out and about.
  • They Both have inbuilt software to make and save notes- This means you need not worry about finding a pen and paper because you can make short notes on your phone with both devices.
  • They Both Have Add on Applications- Both the Blackberry Bold and Apple iPhone give you the opportunity to download more software applications than those that are preinstalled on the device. If there is a piece of software that takes your fancy, you can get it.
  • The both have inbuilt Wi-Fi- if you are in a Wi-Fi hotspot, you do not need to use your mobile providers GPRS service to access the internet, which can save you money. Both devices have inbuilt Wi-Fi.
  • They both have MP3 players- Whilst Apple may have the iPod, and the iPhone has a similar featured inbuilt MP3 player, the Blackberry Bold also has an inbuilt MP3 player that synchronises with iPhone.

Feature wise, the Apple iPhone and the Blackberry Bold are extremely similar. As such, whichever device you go for will probably go down to personal preference. Do you prefer the blackberry’s keypad or want the touch screen of the Apple iPhone.

The Sony Ericsson C901 is a cybershot phone, but Sony Ericsson have been clever to include other great features as well to make it a more rounded performer.

There is a decent 2.2 inch sized screen, all wrapped up in a body measuring 105 x 45 x 13 mm and weighing just 107 grams. Beneath the screen is a navigational pad which makes it easier to move around the interface of the C901 quickly. Around this pad there are a few quick buttons like a call and call end button etc. Beneath all of this is the keypad with fairly round and bulbous buttons.

The C901 is of course a Cybershot phone, which means it is made to take beautiful pictures and the camera is a definite priority. There is a 5 mega pixel camera on the C901, with auto focus, digital zoom and a xenon flash for picture clarity. Sony Ericsson have also included some really clever features to enhance your picture taking which include: Face detection, geo-tagging (which automatically stores the location a picture was taken), and smile shutter, which will auto-take a picture when a person smiles. The quality of the pictures is brilliant.

Sony Ericsson have also realised that although people do want a great camera, they also want other features to make their phone more useful. One of these features if of course a good music player. The music player on the C901 has quite a few applications one typically only sees on Walkman phones. These include: TrackID – which will tell you record a song and be told the song and artists name; PlayNow for downloading tracks. Internal memory is 110 mega bytes. Sound quality is decent and definitely above average.

The Sony Ericsson C901 is a very decent mobile phone from SE. It is a cybershot, so the camera is excellent, but SE have also included a good music player and great internet connectivity to make it a very popular option.
