What company makes Sea & Sea underwater cameras?
Canon, Minolta, Leica… or is Sea & Sea a camera manufacturer in itself?
I don’t need the history of underwater photography nor who does it. I just want to know if Sea&Sea subcontract another camera manufacturer to build the cameras.
Sea & Sea is its own brand that makes cameras, camera equipment (e.g. strobes) and camera housings for underwater use: http://www.seaandsea.com/
There are also other brands that now manufacture underwater cameras–mostly point & shoots like Pentax (http://www.amazon.com/Pentax-Waterproof-Digital-Camera-Optical/dp/B0019V2CR8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1240530460&sr=1-2) or Vivitar (http://www.amazon.com/Vivitar-VIVICAM-6200W-MegaPixel-Underwater-Digital/dp/B000QCI65I/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1240530460&sr=1-3).
Lastly, many brands also have camera housings that will allow you to use their cameras underwater. My personal favorite are those for canon cameras. They are rather bulky, but they allow you to access every button on the camera easily, and can go down pretty far (usually 130 ft or more) so can be used for scuba diving: http://estore.usa.canon.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10051&storeId=10051&categoryId=12097&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=12084&top_category=12084&pageView=&subCat=Y.
Other brands of housing are more for surface use, but will allow you to take your camera snorkeling or even just in and near the water without worrying about splash or spray. Like this Sony version they are much more compact (about the same size as a case), give you access to all of your buttons, but are not suitable for scuba diving.
